The Aran Islands
© Chris Hill Photographic 2007
The Aran Islands are composed of three islands : Inis Mór (Inishmore - Big Island), Inis Meáin (Inishman - Middle island) and Inis Oírr (Inisheer - East island). They are famous for their geological formation,
historical monuments and their linguistic and cultural heritage. The Irish language (Gaelic) is still spoken there and in the twenty first century all native born islanders are bilingual in both Irish and English.
There are two ferry companies offering the crossing to the Aran Islands from Doolin Pier and you can either go the the islands for the day or you can also stay overnight. It is also possible to do a combination trip to the Aran Islands and a cruise along the Cliffs of Moher. Times can vary from one day to the other (weather, tides, number of people, etc.), so let us know if you are planning a trip to the Aran Islands and we will be happy to help !
